Why personalization data matters
For many Etsy sellers, personalization is the business. Custom jewellery with initials. Engraved cutting boards with wedding dates. Monogrammed baby blankets. The personalization isn't an add-on. It's the entire reason the customer chose your product over a mass-produced alternative.
When an Etsy order with personalization data enters your fulfilment workflow, that custom text is the most important detail on the order. Get the name wrong, misspell the date, miss the gift message, and you're remaking the product and reshipping it at your own cost. The product itself might take 20 minutes to make. The personalization mistake adds another 20 minutes plus shipping plus an unhappy customer.
The problem with manual transfer
If you're manually entering Etsy orders into Shopify, personalization data is the detail most likely to get lost or garbled. It lives in Etsy's "Personalization" field, which doesn't have a direct equivalent in Shopify's order structure. When you're copying orders by hand, you need to find somewhere to put that text: a note field, a line item property, a custom attribute. It's inconsistent, easy to miss, and there's no standard place your fulfilment team (even if that team is just you) knows to look.
The risk scales with volume. At 5 personalised orders a day, you can probably keep it straight. At 20, something will get missed. And the orders that go wrong are the ones with the most emotional weight: a birthday gift with a misspelled name, an anniversary present with the wrong date.
Every custom detail, transferred automatically. No copy-pasting.
Try Shuttle freeHow Shuttle handles personalizations
When Shuttle transfers an Etsy order to Shopify, it includes the personalization data as a structured part of the order. The custom text travels with the line item, visible on the order detail page in Shopify, on packing slips, and in any fulfilment workflow that reads order notes or line item properties.
This means the personalization text is where you expect it to be, in a consistent format, every time. You don't need to cross-reference Etsy to check what the customer requested. It's all in Shopify, attached to the right order and the right product.
Personalization text, gift messages, and buyer notes all transfer with the order. No copy-pasting, no cross-referencing between admin panels.
Gift messages too
Etsy buyers can add gift messages to their orders: a note they want included with the package. This is a separate field from personalization and serves a different purpose, but it's equally important for customer satisfaction. A gift order that arrives without the gift message defeats the purpose of adding one.
Shuttle transfers gift messages alongside personalizations. Both appear in the Shopify order, both show up on packing slips, and both are visible wherever you process orders. Nothing gets stripped out during the transfer.
The fulfilment workflow difference
When all order details, products, quantities, personalizations, gift messages, shipping information, are in one system, fulfilment becomes a single-pass process. You open Shopify, see every order from both channels, read the custom details right there, and fulfil. No switching tabs, no second-guessing whether you copied the engraving text correctly, no "let me check the Etsy order to see what they wanted."
For sellers who fulfil personalised orders daily, this can cut fulfilment time significantly. The work is the same. The wasted time cross-referencing two systems is what disappears.
